Santigold - I Don't Want
My 7yo and 4yo LOVE Santigold and I agree. The deceptively simple beats, every-lyric-a-hook and the sunny outlook all help. But the real clencher is that she always sounds like she's having fun and is inviting you along for the ride. I’m down.
Charli XCX - Unlock It
My kids also love this track. It's bubble gum as art. It's pop taken to it's logical, frenetic extreme. It's unabashedly straight-faced silly. I give it 1MM hearts.
Petite Noir - Blame Fire
South African Petite Noir is nothing if not earnest. And he uses that along with his distrinctive voice to build this track. It's filled to the brim with dusty synths, sweaty drums and propulsive bass.
Robyn - Missing U
This song wrecks me every time I hear it. The marriage of the consistent machine kick and the uncertain, wobbly synths is a reflection of life. We gotta be steady staring life in the face, knowing how it can suddenly shift and dump you into a crevice, no matter how steely your gaze. But what other choice do we have.
